North Dakota is home to 2021-2022 National Officer
On July 2, during the 2021 Virtual National Leadership Conference, it was announced that Ilanora
Peterson, from May-Port CG FBLA, was elected as the Mountain Plains Region Vice President on the
FBLA National Officer Team for 2021-22.
Ilanora and Ms. DeVaal (ND FBLA-PBL State Chair and ND CTE Business Education Supervisor) attended
the FBLA National Officer Training on July 18-21 at the FBLA-PBL National Center in Reston, VA and
visited Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
While at the training, Ilanora worked with the National Officer Team and National Staff to review the
organization’s strategic plan; develop a program of work; learn about diversity, equity, and inclusion;
and take professional individual and team photos. Throughout the training, officers learned about the
organization’s education programs, membership programs, and communication tools. The team also
did a 5 Voices personality assessment to learn about each other and their communication styles to work
more effectively throughout the year.
During the day on Capitol Hill, national officers from FBLA and PBL heard from Mike Matthews, ACTE
Government Relations Manager; Dr. Amy Loyd, Deputy Assistant Secretary from the US Department of
Education Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education; and Brad Howard, FBLA-PBL Alumni and
Chief of Staff for U.S. Congresswoman. Ilanora and Ms. DeVaal were able to visit the offices of Senator
Kevin Cramer and Representative Kelly Armstrong to discuss funding for Career & Technical Education
and the role of Career & Technical Student Organizations.
